Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.
Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us: ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi narrated to us, from Yunus ibn ‘Ubayd, from al-Hasan al-Basri, from his mother, from ‘A’ishah, who said: We used to prepare nabidh for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a waterskin that was stoppered at the top and had a small opening. We would prepare it in the morning and he would drink it in the evening, or prepare it in the evening and he would drink it in the morning.
He said: Reports on this topic are also related from Jabir, Abu Sa‘id, and Ibn ‘Abbas. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan gharīb. We know it as a report of Yunus ibn ‘Ubayd only by this route, though the hadith has also been transmitted from ‘A’ishah by other routes.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The witness omits the chain from Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna through al-Hasan al-Basri and his mother. The small opening in the waterskin is mentioned in Arabic; the witness likewise describes it as a small hole.
The English witness omits the full isnad.
Please review the chain translated from Arabic.
The Arabic grades the report hasan gharīb, while the English witness mentions only gharīb.
Should the omitted hasan component of the grade be included?
