Ibn ‘Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Islam is built upon five: bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establishing prayer; giving zakat; fasting Ramadan; and making pilgrimage to the House.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This hadith is hasan sahih, and similar reports have been narrated from Ibn ‘Umar through more than one route. Sa‘ir ibn al-Khims is considered reliable by hadith scholars.’ Reports on this topic are also related from Jarir ibn ‘Abdullah.

Abu Kurayb narrated it through Waki‘, from Hanzalah ibn Abi Sufyan al-Jumahi, from ‘Ikrimah ibn Khalid al-Makhzumi, from Ibn ‘Umar, from the Prophet, with similar wording. Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This hadith is hasan sahih.’
