Nasr ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Kufi narrated to us: al-Muharibi narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj ibn Artah, from Abd al-Malik ibn al-Mughirah, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Baylamani, from Amr ibn Aws, from al-Harith ibn Abd Allah ibn Aws, who said: I heard the Prophet say, ‘Whoever performs Hajj to this House or Umrah should make his final visit to the House.’ Umar said to him, ‘May your hands be ruined! You heard this from the Messenger of Allah and did not tell us?’

There is a report on this topic from Ibn Abbas. Abu Isa said: The hadith of al-Harith ibn Abd Allah ibn Aws is gharib. More than one narrator transmitted something similar from al-Hajjaj ibn Artah, but al-Hajjaj was contradicted regarding part of this chain.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The rebuke is idiomatic: Umar expresses astonishment and reproach at not having been told earlier.
