Ali ibn Hujr narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim informed us, from Ayyub, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, who said: Whenever the Prophet returned from a military expedition, Hajj, or Umrah and climbed a stretch of elevated ground, he would say Allahu akbar three times, then say: ‘There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belong the dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things. Returning, repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord, we affirm that Allah has fulfilled His promise, supported His servant, and defeated the confederates alone.’

There is a report on this topic from al-Bara', Anas, and Jabir. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Ibn Umar is hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic describes climbing a high or open rise of land on the return journey; ‘the confederates’ refers to the allied forces.
