Abu Kurayb narrated to us: Waki' narrated to us, from Hammad ibn Salamah, from Abu al-Muhazzim, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah on Hajj or Umrah, and a swarm of locusts came toward us. We began striking them with our whips and sticks. The Prophet said, ‘Eat them, for they are game from the sea.’

Abu Isa said: This is a gharib hadith. We know it only through Abu al-Muhazzim's narration from Abu Hurayrah. Abu al-Muhazzim's name was Yazid ibn Sufyan, and Shu'bah criticized him. Some scholars permitted a person in ihram to hunt and eat locusts; others said that if he hunts and eats them, he must give charity.
