Yahya ibn Musa narrated to us: Harun ibn Salih al-Talhi narrated to us: Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Prophet bathed at Fakhkh before entering Mecca.
Abu Isa said: This hadith is not preserved. The sound report is that Nafi' narrated from Ibn Umar that Ibn Umar himself used to bathe before entering Mecca. Al-Shafi'i held that bathing before entering Mecca is recommended. Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam is weak in hadith; Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Ali ibn al-Madini, and others considered him weak. We know this report attributed to the Prophet only through him.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The compiler distinguishes the weakly transmitted prophetic attribution from the better established practice of Ibn Umar.
