Qutaybah narrated to us: Abu Awanah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas, that the Prophet saw a man leading a sacrificial camel and said to him, ‘Ride it.’ The man replied, ‘Messenger of Allah, it is a sacrificial camel.’ The Prophet told him a third or fourth time, ‘Ride it, woe to you!’—or he said, ‘Woe to you!’

There are reports on this topic from Ali, Abu Hurayrah, and Jabir. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Anas is hasan sahih. Some scholars among the Prophet's Companions and others permitted riding a sacrificial camel when the rider needed a mount; this is the view of al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. Others said he should not ride it unless compelled to do so.
