Sa'id ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Makhzumi and Ibn Abi Umar narrated to us, saying: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Isa ibn Talhah, from Abd Allah ibn Amr, that a man asked the Messenger of Allah, ‘I shaved before sacrificing; what should I do?’ He replied, ‘Sacrifice, and there is no blame on you.’ Another man asked him, ‘I slaughtered before stoning.’ He replied, ‘Stone, and there is no blame on you.’
There are reports on this topic from Ali, Jabir, Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar, and Usamah ibn Sharik. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Abd Allah ibn Amr is hasan sahih. Most scholars act on this; this is the view of Ahmad and Ishaq. Some scholars said that if a person performs one rite before another, he must offer a sacrificial animal.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The hadith permits performing these rites out of their usual order without blame; some scholars held a stricter view requiring an additional sacrifice.
