Abdullah ibn Mughaffal narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: Were dogs not a community among the communities, I would have ordered that they all be killed. So kill every completely black dog. Reports on this topic are also narrated from Ibn Umar, Jabir, Abu Rafi, and Abu Ayyub. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Abdullah ibn Mughaffal is hasan sahih. It is reported in some narrations that the completely black dog is a devil. A completely black dog is one with no white markings. Some of the people of knowledge disliked using a completely black dog for hunting.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The compiler defines completely black as having no white markings and separately notes a report describing such a dog as a devil.
وَيُرْوَى فِي بَعْضِ الْحَدِيثِ " أَنَّ الْكَلْبَ الأَسْوَدَ الْبَهِيمَ شَيْطَانٌ " .
The compiler cites this as wording found in some narrations, not as the wording of the main report.
Does the translation clearly distinguish this additional narration from the main hadith?
