Ahmad ibn Mani' narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us: Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, from Abu Hurairah, who attributed it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): The Prophet prayed over al-Najashi and pronounced four takbirs. Reports on this topic are also related from Ibn Abbas, Ibn Abi Awfa, Jabir, Yazid ibn Thabit, and Anas. Abu Isa said: Yazid ibn Thabit was the brother of Zayd ibn Thabit and was older than him. He witnessed Badr, while Zayd did not. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Abu Hurairah is hasan sahih. Most scholars among the Prophet's Companions and others act on this, holding that four takbirs are pronounced over the funeral. This is the view of Sufyan al-Thawri, Malik ibn Anas, Ibn al-Mubarak, al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq.
