Abdullah ibn Munir narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Amir, from Hammam, from Abu Ghalib, who said: I performed the funeral prayer with Anas ibn Malik over a man, and he stood level with the man's head. Then they brought the funeral bier of a woman from Quraysh and said, 'Abu Hamzah, perform the prayer over her.' He stood level with the middle of the bier. Al-Ala' ibn Ziyad said to him, 'Is this where you saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stand by the funeral bier—where you stood by her, and where you stood by the man?' He said, 'Yes.' When he finished, he said, 'Remember this.' A report on this topic is also related from Samurah. Abu Isa said: This hadith of Anas is hasan, and more than one narrator transmitted the same from Hammam. Waki' transmitted this hadith from Hammam but erred in it, saying that it was from Ghalib, from Anas. The correct chain is from Abu Ghalib. Abd al-Warith ibn Sa'id and more than one other narrator transmitted this hadith from Abu Ghalib in the same way as Hammam. They differed about this Abu Ghalib's name: some said it was Nafi', and others said Rafi'. Some scholars adopted this view; it is the view of Ahmad and Ishaq.
