حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمُهَزَّمِ، قَالَ صَحِبْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " مَنْ تَبِعَ جَنَازَةً وَحَمَلَهَا ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَدْ قَضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَقِّهَا " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ . وَرَوَاهُ بَعْضُهُمْ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ . وَأَبُو الْمُهَزَّمِ اسْمُهُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ وَضَعَّفَهُ شُعْبَةُ .

Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Ruh ibn Ubadah narrated to us: Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us: I heard Abu al-Muhazzim say: I kept company with Abu Hurairah for ten years, and I heard him say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever follows a funeral procession and carries it three times has fulfilled the right due to it.' Abu Isa said: This is a gharīb hadith. Some narrated it with this chain without attributing it to the Prophet. Abu al-Muhazzim's name was Yazid ibn Sufyan, and Shu'bah considered him weak.

قَالَ صَحِبْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " مَنْ تَبِعَ جَنَازَةً وَحَمَلَهَا ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَدْ قَضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَقِّهَا " .
The Arabic says carrying it three times without specifying the distance or manner, and states that its due right has been fulfilled.
Does this literal wording preserve the report's scope without adding a particular carrying practice?
