Qutaybah narrated to us: al-Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Waqid—namely, Ibn Amr ibn Sa'd ibn Mu'adh—from Nafi' ibn Jubayr, from Mas'ud ibn al-Hakam, from Ali ibn Abi Talib. The matter of standing for funeral processions until the deceased is placed was mentioned, and Ali said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood, then sat.' Reports on this topic are also related from al-Hasan ibn Ali and Ibn Abbas. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Ali is hasan sahih. Its chain includes four Successors, one transmitting from another. Some scholars acted on it. Al-Shafi'i said: 'This is the soundest report on this topic.' This hadith abrogates the earlier hadith, 'When you see a funeral procession, stand.' Ahmad said: 'If he wishes, he may stand; if he wishes, he may not stand.' He cited the report that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and then sat. Ishaq ibn Ibrahim said the same. Abu Isa said: Ali's statement that the Messenger of Allah stood for the funeral procession and then sat means that the Messenger of Allah used to stand when he saw a funeral procession, then later gave that up and no longer stood when he saw one.

وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ نَاسِخٌ لِلْحَدِيثِ الأَوَّلِ " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا " .
The Arabic explicitly calls this report nāsikh, an abrogating report, while other cited scholars describe different practice or choice.
Should 'abrogates' be retained as the compiler's stated interpretation without qualification?
