Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Abu Hamzah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: A red velvet cloth was placed in the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Muhammad ibn Bashshar said elsewhere: Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Yahya narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Abu Jamrah, from Ibn Abbas. This latter chain is more sound. Abu Isa said: This is a hasan hadith. Shu'bah narrated from Abu Hamzah al-Qassab, whose name was Imran ibn Abi Ata. It was also narrated from Abu Jamrah al-Duba'i, whose name was Nasr ibn Imran. Both were companions of Ibn Abbas. It has been narrated from Ibn Abbas that he disliked having anything placed beneath the deceased in the grave. Some scholars adopted this view.
