Ubayd ibn Asbat ibn Muhammad al-Qurashi al-Kufi narrated to us: My father narrated to us: Abu Sinan al-Shaybani narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, who said: Sulayman ibn Surad said to Khalid ibn Urfutah—or Khalid said to Sulayman—'Did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever dies of an abdominal illness will not be punished in his grave?' One of them replied to the other, 'Yes.' Abu Isa said: This is a hasan gharīb hadith on this topic, and it has been narrated through another route.

The Arabic literally says that his stomach killed him, a compact expression whose scope is not further specified.

Does 'dies of an abdominal illness' convey the idiom without suggesting a particular medical diagnosis?
