حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ لِيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنًا " . قَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ هُوَ عَلَىَّ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " بِالْوَفَاءِ " . قَالَ بِالْوَفَاءِ . فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ . قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَسَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ وَأَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .

Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us: Abu Dawud narrated to us: Shu'bah informed us, from Uthman ibn Abdullah ibn Mawhab, who said: I heard Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah relate from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought a man so he could perform the funeral prayer over him. The Prophet said: 'Pray over your companion, for he is in debt.' Abu Qatadah said, 'I will take responsibility for it.' The Messenger of Allah said, 'With repayment?' He said, 'With repayment.' So the Prophet performed the prayer over him. Reports on this topic are also related from Jabir, Salamah ibn al-Akwa', and Asma' bint Yazid. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Abu Qatadah is hasan sahih.
