Muhammad ibn Bashshar and Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna said: Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us; my father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Aban ibn Salih, from Mujahid, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: The Prophet ﷺ forbade us to face the qiblah while urinating, but I saw him facing it a year before he died. There are also reports on this subject from Abu Qatadah, 'A'ishah, and 'Ammar ibn Yasir. Abu 'Isa said: Jabir's hadith on this subject is a hasan gharib hadith.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed

The juxtaposition may be read as a later practice that qualifies the prohibition, but the source itself supplies no explicit reconciliation.

Should an explanatory note identify the apparent tension without resolving it?
