Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Abān narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, from Abū ʿAwānah, with the same chain and similar wording. Abū ʿĪsā said: Hushaym narrated this hadith from Abū Bishr, from Ḥabīb ibn Sālim, from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr, omitting the link from Bashīr ibn Thābit. In our view, the report of Abū ʿAwānah is more authentic, because Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated from Shuʿbah, from Abū Bishr, with wording similar to the narration of Abū ʿAwānah.

  • ‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ،

The compiler contrasts Hushaym’s shorter chain with Abū ʿAwānah’s route, then prefers Abū ʿAwānah’s version based on a similar transmission from Shuʿbah.

No decision requested; the competing chain forms and preference are attributed to the compiler.
