Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah forbade sadl during prayer. A report on this topic is also narrated from Abu Juhaifah. Abu Isa said: We know the report of Abu Hurayrah as a prophetic narration from Ata, from Abu Hurayrah, only through the report of Asl ibn Sufyan. Scholars differed about sadl during prayer. Some disliked it and said that this is how the Jews dress. Others said sadl is disliked only when a person has no garment other than the one being draped; if he drapes it over a shirt, there is no harm. This was the view of Ahmad. Ibn al-Mubarak disliked sadl during prayer.
