Hannād narrated to us: Hushaym narrated to us, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, from Abū ʿUbaydah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd said: The polytheists kept the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) occupied during four prayers on the Day of the Trench until as much of the night had passed as Allah willed. He instructed Bilāl to call the adhān, then the iqāmah was called and he prayed Ẓuhr. Then the iqāmah was called and he prayed ʿAṣr; then the iqāmah was called and he prayed Maghrib; then the iqāmah was called and he prayed ʿIshāʾ. There are also reports on this topic from Abū Saʿīd and Jābir. Abū ʿĪsā said: There is no problem with the chain of ʿAbd Allāh, except that Abū ʿUbaydah did not hear directly from ʿAbd Allāh. This is what some scholars preferred for make-up prayers: a person should call the iqāmah for each prayer as he makes it up, though if he does not call it, that is sufficient. This was the view of al-Shāfiʿī.

The compiler says the chain is acceptable apart from Abū ʿUbaydah’s lack of direct hearing from ʿAbd Allāh, and separately states a view about calling the iqāmah for each make-up prayer.
No decision requested; the chain caveat and legal note are distinguished.
