Ibn Umar reported that the Prophet said: "The night prayer is two rakahs at a time. When you fear dawn, pray one rakah of witr, making it the last prayer of the night." A report on this topic is also narrated from Amr ibn Abasah. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Ibn Umar is hasan sahih. Scholars acted on this, holding that the night prayer is two rakahs at a time. This was the view of Sufyan al-Thawri, Ibn al-Mubarak, al-Shafii, Ahmad, and Ishaq.
