Qutaybah narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī and Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us, from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ, from Abū Qilābah, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: Bilāl was instructed to repeat the phrases of the adhān in pairs and to pronounce the iqāmah with single phrases. There is also a report on this topic from Ibn ʿUmar. Abū ʿĪsā said: The hadith of Anas is hasan sahih. This was the view of some scholars among the Prophet’s Companions and the Successors. Mālik, al-Shāfiʿī, Aḥmad, and Isḥāq held this view.
