Qutaybah narrated to us: al-Layth narrated to us, from al-Hukaym ibn Abd Allah ibn Qays, from Amir ibn Sa‘d, from Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas, from the Messenger of Allah, who said: Whoever, upon hearing the caller to prayer, says: I too bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. I am pleased with Allah as Lord, Muhammad as Messenger, and Islam as religion, his sins will be forgiven.
Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih gharib. We know it only through the narration of al-Layth ibn Sa‘d from Hukaym ibn Abd Allah ibn Qays.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The testimony phrase is a response made upon hearing the caller; the forgiveness statement is retained as the report’s promise.
