Hannad narrated to us: Waki narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Asim ibn Kulayb, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from Alqamah, who said: Abd Allah ibn Masud said: ‘Shall I not show you how the Messenger of Allah prayed?’ He then prayed and did not raise his hands except the first time.
A report on this subject is also related from al-Bara ibn Azib. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Ibn Masud is hasan. More than one scholar among the Prophet’s Companions and the Successors held this view. It was the view of Sufyan al-Thawri and the people of Kufa.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
This is the report limiting the raising of hands to the first time, which the preceding compiler commentary attributed to Ibn al-Mubarak as unestablished, while this entry reports it as hasan and notes its adherents.
