He said: Abd Allah said: Mualla ibn Asad narrated to us: Hammad ibn Mas‘adah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ajlan, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Amir ibn Sa‘d: The Prophet instructed that the hands be placed on the ground, and he mentioned a similar report, but did not include the link from his father.
Abu Isa said: Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan and more than one other transmitter narrated from Muhammad ibn Ajlan, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Amir ibn Sa‘d, that the Prophet instructed the hands to be placed on the ground and the feet to be held upright. This is a mursal report, and it is more sound than the hadith of Wuhayb. This is what the scholars agreed on and preferred.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The commentary prefers the mursal version, which omits Amir’s father from the chain, over Wuhayb’s connected version in the preceding block.
The compiler says this mursal version is more sound than Wuhayb's connected version, though it omits the Companion link.
Is the omission in the mursal chain and the compiler's preference both clearly stated?
