Another chain for the report of Ibn Abbas, with similar wording, was narrated to us by al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Khallal al-Hulwani, from Yazid ibn Harun, from Zayd ibn Hubab, from Kamil Abu al-Ala. Abu Isa said: This hadith is gharib. It has also been narrated from Ali. Al-Shafii, Ahmad, and Ishaq hold this view and consider it permissible in both the obligatory and voluntary prayers. Some narrators transmitted this hadith from Kamil Abu al-Ala as a mursal report.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The phrase similarly narrated from Ali does not identify the precise chain in this excerpt. Mursal is retained as a hadith classification.

The Arabic says the report was likewise narrated from Ali but gives no chain in this sentence.

Does likewise refer to the same supplication being narrated from Ali?
