Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet said: "The direction between the east and the west is a qiblah." Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih. Abdullah ibn Jafar was called al-Makhzumi because he descended from al-Miswar ibn Makhramah. It has been reported from more than one Companion of the Prophet that "the direction between the east and the west is a qiblah," including Umar ibn al-Khattab, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Ibn Abbas. Ibn Umar said: If you place the west to your right and the east to your left, then what lies between them is the qiblah when you face the qiblah. Ibn al-Mubarak said, "The direction between the east and the west is a qiblah"; this applies to the people of the east. Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak preferred turning slightly left for the people of Merv.
