Humayd ibn Mas'adah narrated to us: Sufyan ibn Habib narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj al-Sawwaf, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurairah, who said: The Messenger of Allah said: Allah has protective jealousy, and the believer has protective jealousy. Allah's protective jealousy is that a believer does what He has forbidden him. It is also reported in this chapter from Aishah and Abd Allah ibn Umar. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Abu Hurairah is hasan gharib. It has also been reported from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah, from Urwah, from Asma bint Abi Bakr, from the Prophet; both reports are sound. Al-Hajjaj al-Sawwaf is al-Hajjaj ibn Abi Uthman; Abu Uthman's name was Maysarah. Al-Hajjaj's kunyah was Abu al-Salt, and Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan regarded him as trustworthy. Abu Bakr al-Attar narrated to us from Ali ibn al-Madini, who said: I asked Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan about al-Hajjaj al-Sawwaf, and he said: He is trustworthy, perceptive, and intelligent.
