Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Razi and Abbas ibn Muhammad al-Duri told us, both saying: Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri told us, from Said ibn Abi Ayyub, who said: Abu Marhum told me, from Sahl ibn Muadh, from his father, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade sitting with the knees drawn up and arms wrapped around them on Friday while the imam was preaching. Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan. Abu Marhum was named Abd al-Rahim ibn Maymun. Some scholars considered this posture disliked on Friday while the imam preached; others, including Abdullah ibn Umar, allowed it. This is also the view of Ahmad and Ishaq, who saw no harm in sitting this way while the imam delivered the sermon.
