ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Nufayli narrated to us: Hatim ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us. And Nasr ibn ʿAsim narrated to us: Yahya ibn Saʿid narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet ﷺ recited: ‘Take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer.’

Musa—meaning Ibn Ismaʿil—narrated to us: Hammad narrated to us, from Hisham ibn ʿUrwah, from ʿUrwah, from ʿAishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that a man stood at night and recited the Quran aloud. In the morning, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘May Allah have mercy on so-and-so. Last night he reminded me of a verse I had let slip.’

Qutaybah ibn Saʿid narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad narrated to us: Khusayf narrated to us: Miqsam, the freedman of Ibn ʿAbbas, said: Ibn ʿAbbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: This verse, ‘It is not for a prophet to act dishonestly,’ was revealed concerning a red velvet cloak that went missing on the day of Badr. Some people said: ‘Perhaps the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it.’ So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: ‘It is not for a prophet to act dishonestly,’ through the end of the verse. Abu Dawud said: The letter yaʾ in yaghulla is pronounced with a fatha.

Muhammad ibn ʿIsa narrated to us: Muʿtamir narrated to us. He said: I heard my father say: I heard Anas ibn Malik say: The Prophet ﷺ used to say: ‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from miserliness and senility.’

Qutaybah ibn Saʿid narrated to us: Yahya ibn Sulaym narrated to us, from Ismaʿil ibn Kathir, from ʿAsim ibn Laqit ibn Sabirah, from his father, Laqit ibn Sabirah, who said: I was among the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiq—or with the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiq—to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He related the hadith, and the Prophet said: ‘Do not suppose…’ The transmitter did not say, ‘Do not suppose…’

Muhammad ibn ʿIsa narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us: ʿAmr ibn Dinar narrated to us, from ʿAtaʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said: The Muslims caught up with a man among his small flock. He said, ‘Peace be upon you,’ but they killed him and took that flock. Then this verse was revealed: ‘Do not say to one who offers you peace, You are not a believer, seeking the goods of worldly life’—referring to that flock.

Saʿid ibn Mansur narrated to us: Ibn Abi al-Zinad narrated to us. And Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Anbari narrated to us: Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Ibn Abi al-Zinad—and his version is more complete—from his father, from Kharijah ibn Zayd ibn Thabit, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ used to recite: ‘other than those who are disabled.’ Saʿid did not say, ‘used to recite.’

ʿUthman ibn Abi Shaybah and Muhammad ibn al-ʿAlaʾ narrated to us; they said: ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us: Yunus ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Abu ʿAli ibn Yazid, from al-Zuhri, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited: ‘An eye for an eye.’

Nasr ibn ʿAli narrated to us: my father narrated to us: ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us: Yunus ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Abu ʿAli ibn Yazid, from al-Zuhri, from Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited: ‘We prescribed for them therein: a life for a life, and an eye for an eye.’

Al-Nufayli narrated to us: Zuhayr narrated to us: Fudayl ibn Marzuq narrated to us, from ʿAtiyyah ibn Saʿd al-ʿAwfi, who said: I recited to ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar: ‘Allah is the One who created you from weakness.’ He said: ‘From weakness.’ I recited it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as you recited it to me, and he affirmed it for me just as I affirmed it for you.

Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Qutaʿi narrated to us: ʿUbayd—meaning Ibn ʿAqil—narrated to us, from Harun, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Jabir, from ʿAtiyyah, from Abu Saʿid, from the Prophet ﷺ, who recited: ‘From weakness.’

Muhammad ibn Kathir informed us: Sufyan informed us, from Aslam al-Minqarī, from ʿAbd Allah, from his father ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abza, who said that Ubayy ibn Kaʿb recited: ‘In Allah’s bounty and His mercy—in that let them rejoice.’ Abu Dawud said: with the letter taʾ.

Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us: al-Mughirah ibn Salamah narrated to us: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from al-Ajluh. ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abza narrated to me, from his father, from Ubayy, that the Prophet ﷺ recited: ‘In Allah’s bounty and His mercy—in that let them rejoice. It is better than what they gather.’

Musa ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us: Hammad narrated to us: Thabit informed us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Asmaʾ daughter of Yazid, who heard the Prophet ﷺ recite: ‘Indeed, he did an unrighteous deed.’

Abu Kamil narrated to us: ʿAbd al-ʿAziz—meaning Ibn al-Mukhtar—narrated to us: Thabit narrated to us. Shahr ibn Hawshab said: I asked Umm Salamah how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse: ‘Indeed, it is an unrighteous deed.’ She said: He recited it: ‘Indeed, he did an unrighteous deed.’ Abu Dawud said: Harun al-Nahwi and Musa ibn Khalaf narrated it from Thabit as ʿAbd al-ʿAziz did.

Ibrahim ibn Musa informed us: ʿIsa informed us, from Hamzah al-Zayyat, from Abu Ishaq, from Saʿid ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbas, from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated, he would begin with himself and say: ‘May Allah’s mercy be upon us and Moses. Had he been patient, he would have seen wondrous things from his companion. But he said: If I ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as your companion; you have reached the limit of my excuse.’ Hamzah gave the longer version.

Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman Abu ʿAbd Allah al-ʿAnbari narrated to us: Umayyah ibn Khalid narrated to us: Abu al-Jariyah al-ʿAbdi narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, from Abu Ishaq, from Saʿid ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbas, from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, from the Prophet ﷺ, who recited: ‘You have reached the limit of my excuse,’ pronouncing it with a doubled consonant.

Muhammad ibn Masʿud al-Misisi narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Samad ibn ʿAbd al-Warith narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Dinar narrated to us: Saʿd ibn Aws narrated to us, from Misdaʿ Abu Yahya, who said: I heard Ibn ʿAbbas say: Ubayy ibn Kaʿb taught me to recite it as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him: ‘in a muddy spring,’ with a light consonant.

Yahya ibn al-Fadl narrated to us: Wuhaib—meaning Ibn ʿAmr al-Namari—narrated to us: Harun informed us: Aban ibn Taghlib informed me, from ʿAtiyyah al-ʿAwfi, from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, that the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘A man among the people of the highest ranks will look down upon the people of Paradise, and Paradise will shine with his face like a brilliant star.’ He said: This is how the hadith came, with durri, the letter dal carrying a dammah and without a hamzah. ‘Abu Bakr and ʿUmar are among them—and how excellent they are!’
