Translation

ʿUthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Abu Muʿawiyah narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Khaythamah, from Abu Hudhayfah, from Hudhayfah, who said: When we were present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at a meal, none of us would put his hand to the food until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began. Once, while we were at a meal with him, a Bedouin came as though being pushed and was about to put his hand to the food. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took his hand. Then a young girl came as though being pushed and was about to put her hand to the food. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took her hand and said: “Satan regards as lawful food over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned. He brought this Bedouin so that the food would be lawful for him through him, so I took his hand; then he brought this girl so that it would be lawful for him through her, so I took her hand. By the One in whose hand my soul is, his hand is in my hand together with both their hands.”
