Sunan Abi Dawud 3816

Musa ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us: Hammad narrated to us, from Simak ibn Harb, from Jabir ibn Samurah: A man settled at al-Harrah with his family and children. Another man said, “A she-camel of mine has strayed; if you find her, keep her safe.” He found her but not her owner, and she became ill. His wife said, “Slaughter her,” but he refused, and she died. She said, “Skin her so we can dry her fat and meat and eat it.” He said, “Let me ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” He went and asked him. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Do you have enough to do without her?” He replied: “No.” He said: “Then eat her.” The owner came, and the man told him what had happened. The owner said, “Why did you not slaughter her?” He replied: “I was embarrassed before you.”
