Ahmad ibn Salih narrated to us: Ibn Wahb narrated to us: ʿAmr informed me that Bakr ibn Sawadah narrated to him, that Abu al-Najib, the freedman of ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿd, narrated to him, that Abu Saʿid al-Khudri narrated to him: Garlic and onion were mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It was said: “Messenger of Allah, garlic is the strongest of them all. Will you make it forbidden?” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Eat it. Whoever among you eats it must not approach this mosque until its odor has gone.”
