Sunan Abi Dawud 2854

Adi ibn Hatim said: I asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about the mi'rad (a heavy blunt arrow or stick used for hunting without a sharp tip), and he said: "If it strikes with its edge, eat it, but if it strikes with its flat side, do not eat it, for it is killed by impact (mawqouhd)." I said: "I release my dog?" He said: "If you mention the name of Allah, eat, and if you do not, do not eat. And if it eats from it, do not eat, for it only caught it for itself." He said: "I release my dog and find another dog with it?" He said: "Do not eat, because you only mentioned the name of Allah over your dog."
