My father said, "I went out on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) against Hawazin. While we were taking a midday meal in the forenoon—and most of us were on foot, and among us were some weak individuals—a man came riding a red camel. He pulled a rope from the flank of the camel, tied his camel with it, and came to eat with the people. When he saw their weakness and the scarcity of mounts among them, he hurriedly went out to his camel, untied it, made it kneel down, sat upon it, and set off galloping it. A man from Aslam followed him on a roan she-camel that was among the best of the people's mounts."
He said, "I set out running and caught up with him while the head of the she-camel was level with the hip of the camel, and I was level with the hip of the she-camel. Then I pressed forward until I was level with the hip of the camel. Then I pressed forward until I caught the nose-string of the camel and made it kneel. When its knees touched the ground, I drew my sword, struck his head, and it flew off. I brought his mount and everything upon it, driving it along, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) met me coming towards the people, and asked, 'Who killed the man?' They replied, 'Salamah ibn al-Akwa'.' He said, 'He is entitled to all of his spoil.'" Harun said, "This is the wording of Hashim."
