Jihad (Kitab Al-Jihad)

Abu Said al-Khudri reported: A Bedouin asked the Prophet about migration. He said, "Woe to you! Migration is a serious matter. Do you have camels?" The man said, "Yes." He asked, "Do you pay their alms?" He replied, "Yes." He said, "Then work wherever you are, even beyond the seas; Allah will not diminish any of your deeds."

Al-Miqdam ibn Shurayh reported from his father: I asked Aishah about living in the countryside. She said: The Messenger of Allah used to go out to these valleys. Once he intended to go out to the countryside, and sent me a she-camel from the alms camels, one that had not been used for riding. He said, "Aishah, be gentle. Gentleness never enters anything without adorning it, and it is never removed from anything without disfiguring it."

Muawiyah reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah say, "Migration will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises from the west."

Ibn Abbas reported that on the day Mecca was conquered, the Messenger of Allah said, "There is no migration after the conquest, but there is striving and sincere intention. When you are called to go forth, then go forth."

Amir reported: A man came to Abdullah ibn Amr while people were gathered around him, sat down, and said, "Tell me something you heard from the Messenger of Allah." He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe, and an emigrant is one who abandons what Allah has forbidden."

Abdullah ibn Amr reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah say, "There will be migration after migration. The best people on earth will be those who adhere most closely to the place of Abrahams migration. The worst of its people will remain on earth, cast out by their lands and detested by Allah; the Fire will gather them with apes and swine."

Ibn Hawalah reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "Events will lead to you becoming organized armies: one in Syria, one in Yemen, and one in Iraq." Ibn Hawalah said, "Choose for me, Messenger of Allah, if I live to see that time." He replied, "Go to Syria, for it is the chosen land of Allah, where He selects the best of His servants. If you refuse, then go to Yemen and drink from your reservoirs, for Allah has taken special care of Syria and its people on my behalf."

Imran ibn Husayn reported that the Prophet said, "A group of my community will continue fighting for the truth and prevailing over those who oppose them until the last of them fights the False Messiah."

Abu Said al-Khudri reported that the Prophet was asked, "Which believers have the most complete faith?" He replied, "A man who strives in the path of Allah with his life and property, and a man who worships Allah in a mountain valley while keeping people safe from his harm."

Abu Umamah reported that a man said, “Messenger of Allah, grant me permission to travel in devotion.” The Prophet replied, “The devotional journey of my community is striving in the path of Allah, the Exalted.”

Abdullah ibn Amr reported that the Prophet said, “Returning home is like going on an expedition.”

Thabit ibn Qays reported that a woman called Umm Khallad came to the Prophet wearing a veil to ask about her son, who had been killed. Some of the Prophets Companions said to her, “You have come to ask about your son while veiled?” She replied, “If I suffer the loss of my son, I will not suffer the loss of my modesty.” The Messenger of Allah said, “Your son has the reward of two martyrs.” She asked why, and he replied, “Because the People of the Book killed him.”

Abdullah ibn Amr reported that the Prophet said, “No one should sail the sea except one performing Hajj or Umrah, or one fighting in the path of Allah. Beneath the sea is fire, and beneath the fire is a sea.”

Anas ibn Malik reported that Umm Haram bint Milhan, sister of Umm Sulaim, told him that the Messenger of Allah rested at their home. He awoke laughing, and she asked what had made him laugh. He said, “I saw people from my community sailing upon this sea, like kings upon thrones.” She asked him to pray that she would be among them, and he said she would. He slept again and awoke laughing. When she asked again, he repeated his vision. She asked to be among them, and he said, “You will be among the first.” Ubadah ibn al-Samit later married her and took her on a sea expedition. On their return, a riding animal was brought for her, but it threw her, breaking her neck, and she died.

Anas ibn Malik reported that whenever the Messenger of Allah went to Quba, he would visit Umm Haram bint Milhan, who was married to Ubadah ibn al-Samit. One day, she served him food and sat removing lice from his head. The narrator then related the rest of the report. Abu Dawud said: Umm Haram bint Milhan died in Cyprus.

The sister of Umm Sulaim, al-Rumaisa, reported: The Prophet slept, then awoke while she was washing her hair. He awoke laughing, and she asked, “Messenger of Allah, are you laughing at my hair?” He replied, “No.” The narrator then related this report with additions and omissions. Abu Dawud said: Al-Rumaisa was the foster sister of Umm Sulaim.

Umm Haram reported that the Prophet said, “Whoever is tossed about on the sea in a storm and vomits will have the reward of a martyr; whoever drowns will have the reward of two martyrs.”

Abu Umamah al-Bahili reported that the Messenger of Allah said, “There are three people who are under the care of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: a man who sets out on an expedition in the path of Allah is under the care of Allah until He takes his soul and admits him to Paradise, or brings him back with the reward and spoils he has gained; a man who goes to the mosque is under the care of Allah until He takes his soul and admits him to Paradise, or brings him back with the reward and spoils he has gained; and a man who enters his home with a greeting is under the care of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”

Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah said, “A disbeliever and the one who killed him will never be together in the Fire.”
