On the day of the conquest of Mecca, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) granted security to the people, except for four men and two women, and he named them, along with the son of Abi Sarh.
He then mentioned the rest of the tradition. He said: As for the son of Abi Sarh, he hid with Uthman ibn Affan. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called the people to the oath of allegiance, he brought him and made him stand before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), saying, "O Prophet of Allah, accept the pledge from Abdullah." He raised his head, looked at him three times, and each time refused him, until he accepted his pledge after three times. He then turned to his companions and said, "Is there not among you a judicious man who would stand up to this man, seeing that I withheld my hand from his pledge, and kill him?" They replied, "We do not know, O Messenger of Allah, what is in your heart; why did you not gesture to us with your eye?" He said, "It is not befitting for a prophet to have a treacherous eye."
Abu Dawud said: Abdullah was the foster brother of Uthman, and al-Walid ibn Uqbah was the maternal brother of Uthman, and Uthman inflicted the legal punishment upon him when he drank wine.
