حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ يُوسُفَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيعِيَّ - عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيعِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ مَرَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَبُو جَهْلٍ صَرِيعٌ قَدْ ضُرِبَتْ رِجْلُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ يَا أَبَا جَهْلٍ قَدْ أَخْزَى اللَّهُ الأَخِرَ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَلاَ أَهَابُهُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ ‏.‏ فَقَالَأَبْعَدُ مِنْ رَجُلٍ قَتَلَهُ قَوْمُهُ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِسَيْفٍ غَيْرِ طَائِلٍ فَلَمْ يُغْنِ شَيْئًا حَتَّى سَقَطَ سَيْفُهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِهِ حَتَّى بَرَدَ

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud

I passed by and saw that Abu Jahl was struck down and his leg had been cut off. I said, "O enemy of Allah! O Abu Jahl! Has Allah not disgraced you?" And I did not fear him at that time. He replied, "How can a man killed by his people be disgraced?" Or he said, "Is there any man superior to one killed by his people?" Then I struck him with a useless sword that did not avail anything, until his sword fell from his hand, and I struck him with it until he died.
