The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Who is for Ka'b bin Al-Ashraf? For indeed he has harmed Allah and His Messenger. Muhammad bin Maslamah stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, do you want me to kill him? He said: Yes. He said: Then permit me to say something. He said: Yes, speak. So he came to him and said: This man has asked us for charity and has burdened us, and indeed you will tire of him. He said: We have followed him, and we dislike to leave him until we see to what his matter will lead. We wanted you to lend us a wasq or two. Ka'b said: What will you mortgage to me? He said: What do you want from us? He replied: Your women. They said: Glory be to Allah! You are the most handsome of the Arabs, should we mortgage our women to you? That would be a disgrace for us. He said: Then mortgage your children. They said: Glory be to Allah! One of us would be insulted because it would be said that he was mortgaged for a wasq or two. They said: We will mortgage our armor to you—intending weapons. He said: Yes.
So when he came to him, he called him, and he came out to him perfumed, with drops of fragrance falling from his head. When he sat with him—and he had come with three or four men—they mentioned to him [his perfume], and he said: I have such-and-such woman, and she is the most fragrant among the people's women. He said: Do you permit me to smell? He said: Yes. So he inserted his hand into his head and smelled it. He said: Do you permit me to return? He said: Yes. Then he inserted his hand into his head, and when he had a firm hold of him, he said: Get him! So they struck him until they killed him.
