Abdullah ibn Zuqhub al-Iyadhi narrated to me, saying: Abdullah ibn Hawalah al-Azdi stayed with me and said to me: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent us to acquire spoils on foot, so we returned and did not acquire any spoils. He recognized exhaustion in our faces, so he stood among us and said: "O Allah, do not entrust them to me so that I would be weak regarding them, and do not entrust them to themselves so that they would be incapable of it, and do not entrust them to the people so that they would take precedence over them." Then he placed his hand upon my head—or he said: upon the crown of my head—and then said: "O Ibn Hawalah, when you see that the major discord has settled in the Holy Land, then earthquakes, trials, and grave matters have drawn near, and the Hour on that day is closer to people than this hand of mine is to your head."
