Translation

Muhammad ibn al-ʿAlaʾ narrated to us: Abu Muʿawiyah narrated to us: al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, from the nephew of Zaynab, wife of ʿAbd Allah, from Zaynab, wife of ʿAbd Allah, from ʿAbd Allah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Incantations, amulets, and love charms are shirk.” She said: I asked, “Why do you say this? By Allah, my eye used to discharge, and I would go to a certain Jewish man who recited an incantation over me. When he did, it would calm down.” ʿAbd Allah said: “That was only the work of Satan. He used to prod it with his hand, then stop when the man recited over it. It would have been enough for you to say what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: «Remove the harm, Lord of mankind, and heal; You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.»”
