حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْعَتَكِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، اسْتُصْرِخَ عَلَى صَفِيَّةَ وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ فَسَارَ حَتَّى غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَبَدَتِ النُّجُومُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إِذَا عَجِلَ بِهِ أَمْرٌ فِي سَفَرٍ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ هَاتَيْنِ الصَّلاَتَيْنِ ‏.‏ فَسَارَ حَتَّى غَابَ الشَّفَقُ فَنَزَلَ فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَهُمَا ‏.‏

Translation

Sulayman ibn Dawud al-ʿAtaki narrated to us: Hammad narrated to us: Ayyub narrated to us, from Nafiʿ, that Ibn ʿUmar was summoned regarding Safiyyah while he was in Mecca. He traveled until the sun had set and the stars appeared. He said: ‘When something urgent happened to the Prophet (ﷺ) during a journey, he would combine these two prayers.’ So Ibn ʿUmar continued traveling until the twilight disappeared, then stopped and combined them.
