Performing Ghusl For The Friday Prayer
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تَوْبَةَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ بَيْنَا هُوَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذْ دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَتَحْتَبِسُونَ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ مَا هُوَ إِلاَّ أَنْ سَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ فَتَوَضَّأْتُ . فَقَالَ عُمَرُ وَالْوُضُوءَ أَيْضًا أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ "إِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ "
Translation
Abu Hurairah said
Abu Tawbah ar-Rabi' ibn Nafi' narrated to us: Mu'awiyah informed us, from Yahya, Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd ar-Rahman informed us, that Abu Hurairah informed him that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was delivering a speech to us on a Friday when a man entered. 'Umar said, "Do you hold people back from the prayer?" The man said, "It is only that when I heard the call, I performed ablution." 'Umar said, "And ablution as well? Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'When any of you comes to Friday prayer, let him take a bath'?"
