حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَنْبَسَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلميَسْتَنُّ وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلاَنِ أَحَدُهُمَا أَكْبَرُ مِنَ الآخَرِ فَأُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ فِي فَضْلِ السِّوَاكِ ‏"‏ أَنْ كَبِّرْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ أَعْطِ السِّوَاكَ أَكْبَرَهُمَا ‏.‏قَالَ أَحْمَدُ - هُوَ ابْنُ حَزْمٍ - قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ الأَعْرَابِيِّ هَذَا مِمَّا تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin

Muhammad ibn 'Isa told us: 'Anbasah ibn 'Abd al-Wahid told us, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from 'A'ishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was using the miswak while two men were with him, one of whom was older than the other. Revelation came to him concerning the virtue of the miswak, saying: 'Give precedence,' meaning: 'Give the miswak to the older of the two.' Ahmad—meaning Ibn Hazm—said: Abu Sa'id—meaning Ibn al-A'rabi—told us: This is one of the matters peculiar to the people of Madinah.
