Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Faris told us: Abdullah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' told us. And [alternatively] Musaddad told us: Isa ibn Yunus told us, both saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad told us. Abu Dawud said: And I am more precise regarding the hadith of Ibn Yahya—from Ghutayf. Muhammad said: From Abu Ghutayf al-Hudhali, who said: I was with Abdullah ibn Umar. When the call for Dhuhr was proclaimed, he performed ablution and prayed. When the call for Asr was proclaimed, he performed ablution. So I asked him about that, and he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to say: "Whoever performs ablution while already in a state of purity, Allah writes for him ten good deeds."
Abu Dawud said: This is the hadith of Musaddad, and it is more complete.
