حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، عَنْ حُمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبَانَ، مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَفْرَغَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا فَغَسَلَهُمَا ثُمَّ تَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْثَرَ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاَثًا وَغَسَلَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى إِلَى الْمِرْفَقِ ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ الْيُسْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ قَدَمَهُ الْيُمْنَى ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ الْيُسْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم تَوَضَّأَ مِثْلَ وُضُوئِي هَذَا ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ مِثْلَ وُضُوئِي هَذَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لاَ يُحَدِّثُ فِيهِمَا نَفْسَهُ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Humran b. Abban, the freed slave of ‘Uthman, said

Al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Hulwani narrated to us: Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us: Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Humran ibn Aban, the freed slave of Uthman ibn Affan, who said: I saw Uthman ibn Affan performing ablution. He poured water over his hands three times and washed them. Then he rinsed his mouth and sniffed water into his nose. Then he washed his face three times, and washed his right hand up to the elbow three times, and then the left like that. Then he wiped his head, and then washed his right foot three times, and then the left like that. Then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performing ablution like this ablution of mine. Then he said: Whoever performs ablution like this ablution of mine, then prays two units of prayer without letting his mind be distracted by worldly thoughts during them, Allah will forgive him his past sins.
