حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَتُحِبُّونَ أَنْ أُرِيَكُمْ، كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَتَوَضَّأُفَدَعَا بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ فَاغْتَرَفَ غُرْفَةً بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى فَتَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ أُخْرَى فَجَمَعَ بِهَا يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ أُخْرَى فَغَسَلَ بِهَا يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى ثُمَّ أَخَذَ أُخْرَى فَغَسَلَ بِهَا يَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى ثُمَّ قَبَضَ قَبْضَةً مِنَ الْمَاءِ ثُمَّ نَفَضَ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَبَضَ قَبْضَةً أُخْرَى مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَرَشَّ عَلَى رِجْلِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَفِيهَا النَّعْلُ ثُمَّ مَسَحَهَا بِيَدَيْهِ يَدٍ فَوْقَ الْقَدَمِ وَيَدٍ تَحْتَ النَّعْلِ ثُمَّ صَنَعَ بِالْيُسْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ‏.‏

‘Ata’ b. Yasar quoting Ibn ‘Abbas said

Uthman bin Abi Shaibah narrated to us, Muhammad bin Bishr narrated to us, Hisham bin Sa'd narrated to us, Zayd narrated to us, from Ata' bin Yasar, who said: Ibn Abbas said to us: "Would you like me to show you how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed ablution?" He called for a vessel containing water, took a handful of water with his right hand, rinsed his mouth, and sniffed water up his nose. Then he took another handful and gathered it with both hands, then washed his face. Then he took another handful and washed his right hand with it. Then he took another handful and washed his left hand with it. Then he took a handful of water, shook his hand, and wiped his head and ears with it. Then he took another handful of water and sprinkled it over his right foot while it was in his sandal, and wiped it with both hands—one hand over the top of the foot and the other beneath the sandal. Then he did the same with the left one.
