Muhammad ibn al-Ala', Ayyub ibn Muhammad ar-Raqqi, and Amr ibn Uthman al-Himsiyy—the meaning being the same—said: Marwan ibn Muawiyah narrated to us: Hilal ibn Maymun al-Juhani informed us, from Ata ibn Yazid al-Laythi—Hilal said: I do not know it except from Abu Sa'id. Ayyub and Amr said: I think it—from Abu Sa'id: The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by a boy who was skinning a goat, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: "Step aside until I show you." He then inserted his hand between the skin and the flesh and pushed it in until it reached the armpit. Then he went away and led the people in prayer without performing ablution.
Abu Dawud said: Amr added in his narration, meaning: He did not touch water. And it was narrated from Hilal ibn Maymun ar-Rami, and Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad and Abu Muawiyah narrated it from Hilal, from Ata, from the Prophet (ﷺ) as mursal, and they did not mention Abu Sa'id.
