حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ - عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ بْنَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ، دَخَلَ عَلَى أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ فَسَقَتْهُ قَدَحًا مِنْ سَوِيقٍ فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَتَمَضْمَضَ فَقَالَتْ يَا ابْنَ أُخْتِي أَلاَ تَوَضَّأُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏تَوَضَّئُوا مِمَّا غَيَّرَتِ النَّارُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ أَوْ قَالَ مِمَّا مَسَّتِ النَّارُ ‏.‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ فِي حَدِيثِ الزُّهْرِيِّ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي

Narrated Umm Habibah

Muslim ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Aban narrated to us, from Yahya - meaning the son of Abi Kathir - from Abu Salamah, that Abu Sufyan ibn Sa'id ibn al-Mughirah narrated to him that he entered upon Umm Habibah and she gave him a cup of sawiq to drink. He called for water and rinsed his mouth. She said, "O son of my sister, will you not perform ablution? For the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Perform ablution from what the fire has changed,' or he said, 'from what the fire has touched.'" Abu Dawud said: In the narration of al-Zuhri: "O son of my brother."
