حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنِ الرُّكَيْنِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ كُنْتُ رَجُلاً مَذَّاءً فَجَعَلْتُ أَغْتَسِلُ حَتَّى تَشَقَّقَ ظَهْرِي فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم - أَوْ ذُكِرَ لَهُ - فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ لاَ تَفْعَلْإِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْمَذْىَ فَاغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ وَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلاَةِ فَإِذَا فَضَخْتَ الْمَاءَ فَاغْتَسِلْ ‏"

‘Ali said

Qutaibah bin Sa'id narrated to us: 'Ubaidah bin Humaid al-Hadhtha' narrated to us, from ar-Rukin bin ar-Rabi', from Husain bin Qabisah, from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "I was a man who experienced frequent secretion of Madhy (prostatic fluid), so I used to take a bath until my back felt cracked. I mentioned that to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) — or it was mentioned to him — and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Do not do that. When you see Madhy, wash your penis and perform ablution as you do for prayer. And when you gush forth water (ejaculate semen), then take a bath.'"
